Fair courts require more than the appearance of a hearing
A courtroom should be neutral. Bias can appear through unequal rulings, prejudgment, undisclosed conflicts, or a pattern of treating similarly situated people differently.
What failure can look like
- Unequal time or opportunity to present evidence
- Statements suggesting prejudgment
- Conflicts, favoritism, or inconsistent enforcement
